Holiday Snob: avoid European package deals

Now this blog but be considered rude to some and reality to other. I’m writing this blog while enjoying a week long holiday to Cyprus with my wife. I’m actually writing this while enjoying a beer watching Andy Murray playing in the Wimbledon final.

Cyprus wasn’t my chosen destination for our holiday this year but my friend Sean and Noosha are getting married here on Thursday. The choices of hotel and holiday to Cyrus I felt were limited. We are in the west region at Coral Bay.

I’ve been lucky enough to go on some nice holidays over the last few years and didn’t really consider them better than the normal. However, I feel I’ve been spoilt in recent years. Destinations include Sri Lanka, Maldives, Egypt and Cape Verde.

Within 5 minutes of being at our hotel I realised the gulf in quality in Cyprus and previous holidays was about the size of the grand canyon. I’m more than happy to admit I’m my wife and I are now both holiday snobs and hopefully I will never go on another European package deal.

The scary thing is this holiday wasn’t cheap. The best part of £2000 for a couple. I just don’t feel the quality is here anymore and the hotel I am in is more premier inn type level. This is fine in the UK when on a night over with business, but not when you are trying to enjoy a holiday.

Hopefully avoiding package holidays to europe will allow me never to:

- carry my own suitcases
- see a man carrying his sunglasses via a ring connected to his nipple
- hear a man saying he is taking a picture of a lady to send to his son in jail
- see a man wearing ‘real’ Burberry clothes from head to toe

As a final point, if you are a fan of an Elvis tribute act…… Cyprus is the place for you!
